4C Patient Ward Renovation 2016-09-08T17:01:03+00:00

Project Description

19,000 SF renovation of an existing non-clinical, fourth-floor space of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington D.C., into a 28-bed step-down patient ward (nursing unit), and a 1,500 SF roof level expansion for a patient-staff lounge and multi-purpose conference room.  Designed with Planetree inspired concepts, the patient ward now boasts a refreshingly new feeling and appearance in order to create a true space for healing.

Features of the design include:  increased natural light via skylights, water feature, waiting room art gallery, meditation room, natural color and material finishes; private patient rooms with private baths and family areas; “front porch” design to each patient room; mosaic tile mural; decentralized nursing station; family lounge; five isolation patient rooms with ante rooms; energy efficient general, task and accent lighting; and renovation-wide replacement and upgrade of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
