Client Ask: The renovation of four residential “neighborhoods” common spaces for Pinnacle Living’s Hermitage Richmond Assisted Living Facility. Cornerstone worked with Design Source Inc. and Norman Company Inc. to convert already existing spaces into more user friendly, ADA accessible, and open areas. Moving away from a medical facility feel, to more of a home-like environment. This included the creation of four new resident kitchenettes, three new living rooms, and the complete renovation of the hallways, dining rooms, and lobby.
Challenges: The design team faced was the client’s need to keep the residential neighborhoods occupied and functional during construction. We worked with Norman Co. to create a comprehensive phasing schedule that not only met Pinnacle’s requirements but also retained easy access for the residents and remained life safety code compliant.
Our Solution: While this project is still on going, the first of the resident neighborhoods has been completed. The final design and outcome have been a much-appreciated change by the client and the nursing staff, with Pinnacle receiving multiple letters and cards of appreciation from the residents and their families.
